An unspecified number of police officers in Akron, Ohio, were placed on administrative leave after the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, during a traffic stop on June 27.

The shooting has sparked protests and outrage in Akron and across the country, with many questioning the use of deadly force by police.

According to the Akron Police Department, officers attempted to pull over Walker for a traffic violation around 12:30 a.m. on June 27. Walker reportedly fled from police in his car, and officers pursued him. During the pursuit, police said, Walker fired a shot from his car. Officers then used deadly force to stop Walker's car, firing multiple rounds into the vehicle.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they recovered a handgun and a loaded magazine from Walker's car.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting. The Akron Police Department has also released body camera footage of the incident.

The shooting of Jayland Walker is the latest in a string of police killings of Black men in the United States. These killings have sparked widespread protests and calls for police reform.

In the wake of Walker's death, many are left wondering why police used deadly force in this case. Walker was reportedly unarmed when he was shot, and he did not appear to pose a threat to the officers.

The shooting has also raised questions about the use of body cameras by police. While body cameras can provide valuable evidence, they do not always capture the whole story. In this case, the body camera footage does not show what happened before Walker was shot.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and it is too early to say what happened. However, the shooting has raised important questions about the use of deadly force by police and the need for police reform.
