Two Blazes Spark Evacuations, Zero Percent Containment

Two wildfires that ignited on Monday in Southern New Mexico have scorched 13,921 acres and displaced thousands of residents, according to the Village of Ruidoso. The larger of the two fires, known as the South Fork Fire, was discovered just before 9:00 am on Monday on the Mescalero Reservation near the village of Ruidoso, which has a population of over 7,000. The second blaze, dubbed the Salt Fire, is also actively burning in the region.

Zero Percent Containment, Evacuations Ordered

Both fires have exhibited rapid growth and aggressive behavior, with the South Fork Fire consuming 13,921 acres and the Salt Fire spanning an unknown area. As of Tuesday morning, both blazes remain at zero percent containment, raising significant concerns for firefighting crews and impacted communities. The Village of Ruidoso has issued mandatory evacuation orders for all residents within the village limits, affecting an estimated 3,000 people.
